ceda Silver Partner owners receive accreditation from The Carbon Trust
Owners of ceda Silver Partner Synergy Grill receive accreditation from The Carbon Trust
Active Food Systems, manufacturers of ceda Silver Partner, Synergy Grill, has announced that they have become the first commercial chargrill manufacturer to be awarded Accredited Supplier status by the Carbon Trust. This accreditation means that Active Food Systems are now listed on the Carbon Trust’s Green Business Directory to supply and install energy efficient grill solutions, such as their own Synergy Grill.
Carbon Trust Accredited Suppliers are independently assessed by the Carbon Trust and found to have met (or exceeded) criteria designed to examine their capability and proven track record of delivering thoughtful, well-designed energy efficient and renewable energy systems. Active Food Systems demonstrated this by providing case studies which highlight the quality of projects, combined with client references affirming their satisfaction with completed work.
Richard Ebbs, Commercial & Marketing Director at Active Food Systems, manufacturers of the Synergy Grill, is delighted with the accreditation:
“Energy efficiency and sustainability issues are at the very core of Synergy Grill technology and were hugely influential factors during the design process. We are thrilled that Active Food Systems have been accredited by the Carbon Trust to carry out the install of energy efficient grill solutions such as our Synergy Grill; especially as we are the only chargrill manufacturer to be listed on the Green Business Directory. This Accreditation further differentiates Synergy Grill Technology from standard chargrill providers, as well as other catering equipment, by combining the already accepted improved food quality, with greater environmental excellence. Our Chairman and inventor Justin Cadbury has always said this stands at the very heart of our vision for better food at lower cost, both financially and environmentally. We welcome any restaurants and dealers who feel this is a worthy benefit to them and their colleagues”.
The Synergy Grill uses the latest patented burner technology and natural ceramics which uses on average 59% less gas and produces less CO residue compared to commercial gas grills of similar sizes. The heat capturing ceramic technology ensures that heat is focused directly towards the food, therefore requiring less energy for a cleaner, safer and greener grilling experience.
Unlike conventional chargrills, Synergy Grill technology atomises the fat, thereby eradicating the necessity for a fat tray and the need to dispose of fat waste altogether. This reduces operator’s contributions to environmental damage caused by fat and grease disposal such as sewage blockages and fatbergs. The only disposal required with a Synergy Grill, is the vacuuming away of carbon dust deposits at the end of each service.
For further information on the full Synergy Grill range or to arrange a demonstration, visit www.synergygrill.com, call 01480 811000 or email info@synergygrill.com.

Hospitality Action confirmed as the nominated charity for the ceda Conference 2019
Hospitality Action confirmed as the nominated charity for the ceda Conference 2019
Hospitality Action has been confirmed as this year’s Chair-nominated charity for the ceda Conference 2019.
Behind the smiles and slick service, hospitality workers can fall upon hard times just like anybody else. Ours is a stressful industry, with long hours, high pressure environments and physically demanding work.
Injuries, mental health problems and addiction are sadly a feature of modern life in the hospitality trade. That’s where Hospitality Action steps in. They work to provide hospitality workers with financial, physical and psychological support to help them overcome adversity and get back to work as quickly as possible. They help individuals and their families stay afloat with grants to cover anything from rent payments to school uniform for their children. And for those who sadly can’t return to the industry they love, they provide ongoing support to transition them to the next stage of their lives.
For older people who have retired from the industry they provide grants to help with heating bills, home conversions or even funeral costs for loved ones. Just as importantly, they provide a lifeline to prevent loneliness and isolation and their ‘Golden Friends’ enjoy regular contact and local events to help them stay active and connected to their community.
ceda’s in-coming Chair, Derek Maher, explains the decision behind choosing Hospitality Action as this year’s nominated charity, “I’m very enthusiastic about supporting Hospitality Action this year as they are perfectly aligned with the ethics of ceda. Additionally, I have also started training for the “Le Tour de Cuisine” on 10th June which is a 100-mile cycle ride in the Cotswolds organised by Hospitality Action.”

ULEZ is coming...
ULEZ is coming...
“You lez”. That’s how you say it. But what on earth are we talking about?
If you’ve got vehicles going in and out of London regularly, then you hopefully already know.
Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) is Transport For London’s latest bid to tackle air pollution, and it’s being introduced next month, on 8th April to be precise.
TFL are introducing a new charge in the Capital, and there’s a chance it could be rolled out to other UK cities in the future.
It’ll work like the current congestion charge, with the same geography to start with, charging certain vehicles who drive inside it.
The charge? £12.50 for cars, £100 for lorries per day. And it will operate 24/7!
The good news is that most petrol vehicles manufactured after 2006 will be exempt from charges. The bad? Nearly all diesel ones won’t be.
If you didn’t already know about ULEZ and you’re now getting a little hot under the collar, quickly check if your vehicle is exempt on the TFL website now.
Taking public transport, upgrading to a newer vehicle and going electric seem to be the most commonly suggested solutions to dealing with ULEZ. None of which seem to be that convenient to drivers or fleet managers.
Did you know about it? What are you going to do to combat the extra costs?

Surplus catering equipment service for members as Ramco joins ceda
Surplus catering equipment service for members as Ramco joins ceda
Specialist surplus equipment handler Ramco Foodservices has joined ceda as an associate member.
Launched in early 2017, Ramco which operates nationally, is now established as the UK’s leading outlet for surplus catering equipment, offering a compliant, flexible and bespoke disposal service for catering equipment.
A drive in demand for its services has seen sales increase by 50%, cementing Ramco’s confidence that there is growing interest in reusing surplus catering equipment, and that its ‘cash it, don’t scrap it’ mantra is resonating with the market.
The new membership comes as a result of a successful trial which took place in 2018, where Ramco undertook the decommissioning of a variety of unwanted surplus catering equipment from various ceda clients’ sites, ranging from a university campus to a law firm’s HQ. This was then followed by Ramco carrying out presentations about their services at ceda regional meetings.
Adam Mason, director general for ceda said: “The ceda Board is convinced that Ramco’s services will be beneficial to members, especially those who have been seeking to dispose of unwanted assets in an increasingly environmentally responsible way. We’re glad to have them on board.”
Paul Fieldhouse, business development manager for Ramco said: “We are delighted to be part of the association, and look forward to creating opportunities for ceda members to benefit by providing a financially attractive and environmentally sustainable outlet for surplus equipment.”
“We believe that being part of ceda will provide an excellent opportunity for us to gain better understanding of the commercial and legislative pressures facing the sector.”
In addition to Ramco Foodservices being a new member, it will also be exhibiting at the ceda Conference in April 2019.
