Aqua Cure: Are you using the right filter for your water?

Hard water is any water that contains high levels of magnesium and calcium minerals. These minerals are naturally present in soil and sedimentary rock, and as water flows through the ground, they dissolve and enter the water supply The more minerals present, the harder the water.

In contrast, soft water is any water that contains zero or low levels of dissolved minerals. Naturally soft water is typically found in areas with non-porous rock, like granite, where rainwater flows across the surface without absorbing much mineral content

The Importance of Using the Right Water Filter

It is important to use the right type of water filter as filters are designed to address specific issues. Since hard water contains high concentrations of dissolved calcium and magnesium ions, the most effective filters for this type of water are those designed for water softening, typically using an ion-exchange process.

These filters specifically target and remove the hardening ions, which can otherwise cause limescale buildup in kettles, appliances, and pipes, reducing their efficiency and lifespan.

Using a general-purpose filter (like a standard carbon filter) in an area with very hard water may not adequately reduce the mineral content responsible for limescale, leading to poor performance and premature failure of the filter itself.

Therefore, matching the filter technology to the water quality – specifically, using a water softener for hard water – is crucial for achieving the desired results and protecting your plumbing and appliances.

What the Right Water Filter Can do for Your Equipment

Water boilers and boiling tap: Stop limescale build up
Warewashing: Stops scale causing issues with the warewasher
Steam combi ovens: Protect your oven from scale and corrosion
Ice machines: Remove bacteria, sediment, chlorine and scale
Coffee machines: Get the best flavour from your coffee and protect your machine
Drinking water: Get clean and better tasting water
