Picturehouse Transformation of Space
Arolite
For more than a decade, Arolite has been a trusted partner to Picturehouse Cinemas, supporting the catering equipment and foodservice operations across its nationwide estate. In 2025, that relationship evolved into a transformative programme designed to unlock the commercial potential of dormant kitchen spaces across eight Picturehouse venues. Rather than simply refurbishing equipment, the initiative focused on creating fully operational, tenant-ready foodservice environments capable of supporting independent food operators whose brands reflected the character of each local cinema and community.
Working across sites including West Norwood, Brixton, Hackney and Henley, Arolite delivered a complete lifecycle solution encompassing asset audits, deep cleaning, equipment servicing, compliance certification, refurbishment, replacement and staff training. Every venue remained operational throughout the works, requiring careful planning, logistics coordination and a highly responsive approach. The emphasis was always on making intelligent, sustainable decisions; restoring and reusing equipment wherever possible, introducing new equipment only when genuinely required, and ensuring every site was fully compliant and ready to trade from day one.
The programme has delivered far more than upgraded kitchens. Formerly dormant spaces are now occupied by thriving independent operators, generating new revenue streams and enhancing the guest experience within each cinema. With over 300 assets assessed, 87% successfully reinstated and a projected reduction in unplanned expenditure across the estate, the initiative demonstrates the value of proactive lifecycle management over reactive maintenance. More importantly, it highlights the strength of a partnership built on trust, transparency and a shared commitment to helping Picturehouse venues continue to serve their communities in new and innovative ways.
