Minimising risk from COVID-19 when re-opening a commercial kitchen guidance

We set up a working group of ceda Board members to produce a guidance paper to help operators ensure they have considered everything relating to back-of-house and service, ahead of the hospitality re-opening date of 4th July.

This interactive pdf is intended to help operators of commercial kitchens determine what actions they can take to minimise risk to staff, customers and suppliers from the COVID-19 virus. It provides suggestions for each area of the kitchen operation. It is intended to be read in conjunction with Government guidance which is regularly updated at www.gov.uk/workingsafely

Please use this document to work with your customers to help provide them with peace of mind and potential business opportunities for you to provide equipment and services referenced within.

Many thanks to the working group of ceda Members that has helped to put this document together.

Site Visit Documents

During the current situation service engineers are key workers and are potentially at risk of contracting the coronavirus and spreading it.

With this in mind, it makes sense to protect them as far as possible and at the same time protect your business from any potential claims in the event that someone, engineer or client, contracts the virus and with this in mind we have produced 2x templates that can easily be branded with your company details.

The key document is the “Visit Client Agreement” which should be emailed to the client with a request that it be signed and returned before any site visit.

The second document, “Visit Agreement” should only be used where the client requests it. Engineers should each be asked to sign one copy which can then be scanned and held in your office ready to be dated and copied to clients by email when required. It would be sensible to check regularly with your engineers that their health statement is still relevant.

These documents are templates and it may be that you want to add information to them.  For example, you may want to add that no paper job sheets will be left on site but will be sent electronically.

COVID-19 Risk Assessments

In view of the current situation we have produced additional Risk Assessments for both delivery and installation of equipment and also repair and maintenance and these are attached.

Theses should be used to supplement your normal risk assessments.

Both documents refer to FFP3 face masks. It is recognised that it is proving very difficult to obtain these so you may have to amend the Risk Assessment to include the type of masks that you are able to use.

We understand that some employers are issuing disposable overalls to engineers which is good practice, however, if they do, then the PPE Risk Assessment should be amended to list these but with the following caveat:

“the fire retardancy of the material should be reviewed especially where the work being done may be associated with a naked flame”
