The Ship, Greenwich Ground Floor
NWCE Foodservice Equipment
The Ship, Greenwich transformed a challenging riverside site into a vibrant hospitality destination that celebrates the area’s rich maritime heritage. Located on the busy promenade beside the Cutty Sark and River Thames, the venue was conceived as a modern bistro and social hub, combining a premium food offering with a dynamic bar operation designed to serve both tourists and local residents. For NWCE Foodservice Equipment, the project involved creating the operational backbone for a venue that would become a focal point within one of London’s most visited historic districts.
The design had to overcome a series of significant constraints. The building previously housed two separate restaurant operations, requiring the integration of existing infrastructure into a single cohesive kitchen and bar concept. Low ceilings, structural beams and complex ventilation requirements demanded innovative solutions, including a bespoke raked canopy system and carefully coordinated service routes that maximised available space while maintaining performance and compliance. The bar design was equally challenging, having to work around fixed architectural elements and accommodate late-stage layout revisions without compromising functionality, hygiene or workflow.
The project’s location added another layer of complexity. Deliveries and installation works had to be carefully managed around strict access restrictions, pedestrian traffic and the operational demands of a busy riverside environment. Through close collaboration with architects, contractors and the client team, NWCE successfully delivered a highly efficient kitchen and bar operation that supports the venue’s ambitious culinary offering. The completed project combines robust operational performance with thoughtful design, providing the foundation for a destination venue that reflects the character, energy and history of Greenwich while positioning The Ship for long-term success.
