CHR played a central role in delivering the latest phase of development at the award-winning Crow Wood Hotel & Spa—a project that combined the expansion of its luxury spa with a new high-performance kitchen to serve both the flagship Bertram’s Restaurant and large-scale banqueting operations.

This project was the result of a longstanding relationship, built over decades of collaboration. In 2023, CHR was appointed to design, manage, and deliver a kitchen capable of handling 600 covers per day while aligning with the site’s strong focus on efficiency, sustainability, and user-centred design.

Working closely with the Crow Wood team—without a lead architect—CHR coordinated directly with the client, builder, and MEP consultants to deliver an operationally smart and environmentally responsible kitchen. The team conducted detailed on-site surveys after discovering major discrepancies in the original building plans. This allowed CHR to develop a fully accurate set of drawings using Revit, ensuring every trade could work from a common, precise reference point.

Key delivery highlights:

• Layout and flow tailored around real chef workflows, with clean lines, easy-to-maintain surfaces, and intuitive positioning.
• Integration of high-efficiency systems and future-ready infrastructure, including connected kitchen readiness and TM65 carbon data compatibility.
• Over 80% of procurement from British manufacturers, with nearly half sourced within 30 miles of Burnley.
• Full coordination of first-fix works, with pre-marked steel templates ensuring exact alignment for services and a build tolerance of just 2mm.
• Smart solutions for unforeseen design issues—like ventilation routing, steel beam clashes, and structural adjustments.

Despite delays caused by substation approvals and labour shortages, CHR maintained project momentum through proactive planning and industry collaboration—leveraging peer support through CEDA to implement vesting certification, which unlocked cash flow and kept delivery on track.

Through clear communication, technical precision, and hands-on collaboration, CHR delivered a showcase kitchen and spa support facility that reflects the same attention to detail and excellence that have made Crow Wood a multi-award-winning destination.
